SDM fellows begin their studies with a month in residence at MIT. Affectionately known as SDM boot camp, the January session kicks off the process of developing systems thinking and builds the foundations of a learning community that will work together on campus and at a distance throughout the program.
Designed and led by second-year SDM fellows, the January session is demanding, intensive and fun. Students learn to understand, analyze and solve complex systems problems though design challenges, classes and meetings with business and academic leaders. Regular social activities help participants bond together into a cohesive group.
Students report that SDM boot camp is invaluable not only for building strong professional skills, but also for establishing the network of colleagues that will support them throughout the program and over the course of their careers.
