Career Services

MIT's System Design and Management program is dedicated to providing its students with the tools they need to advance within their companies or to search for a new job. SDM career development sessions related to finding employment, such as on-campus recruitment activities, are open only to self-funded students.

Throughout the year, SDM brings outstanding career development professionals to campus to help students build the skills they need for success. Topics range from resume writing to networking to how to make a stellar presentation. SDM's expert-run workshops typically include individual coaching, so each student receives tailor-made career assistance.

Recent workshops have included:

Communication and Presentation Skills: Professor Louise Cash is a vocalist, actress, outstanding teacher and motivational speaker who incorporates performer's tools into the mastery of public and personal communication. SDM fellows learn from her two-hour presentation, as well as from individual coaching sessions that help them hone their presentation styles. She is the founder and creator of the Louise Cash Institute for Leadership in Communication.

Marketable Resumes: Deborah Jancourtz, career development specialist, has counseled people of all ages and ethnicities in career management and the job search process. She is an expert in understanding employer needs and in writing marketable resumes. She has extensive experience working with technical employees, from hourly workers to corporate officers.

Networking and Interviewing with Confidence: Dan King, founder and principal of Career Planning and Management Inc., supports individuals and organizations in planning and managing a wide range of work-life and workplace issues. His half-day workshop focuses on the importance of self-marketing, networking and interviewing skills, and the session includes tips for negotiating.

Individual career coaching, designed for self-funded students, may also be scheduled.
