Chris Bates has worked at MIT for 13 years in a wide range of areas, including the Technology and Policy Program and the ESD Doctoral Program. She is currently SDMís Program Coordinator.

Chris was recently honored with MITís Infinite Mile Award.

Vinay D. Deshmukh, SDM '07

Vinay D Deshmukh

Vinay is currently involved in applying systems thinking and principles to Agilent's post acquisition integration projects, system design for corporate restructuring and complex program management. Vineet worked as a director of development at Oracle Corporation for over eight years before joining Agilent. In addition to his SM in Engineering and Management from SDM, Vinay holds a masters degree in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology.

John M. Grace

John M. Grace

John M. Grace is presently the Industry Co-Director in the System Design and Management Program, a graduate level masterís program jointly sponsored by MIT Sloan School of Management and the MIT School of Engineering. In this role, he is involved with building multidimensional relations among industrial firms and the SDM program, SDM students and MIT faculty.

Prior to joining SDM, Mr. Grace was Vice President of Engineering and Technology at ArvinMeritor, a tier one automotive supplier. There he was responsible for corporate engineering, the engineering and technical councils and the technology road map process as part of the corporationís strategic planning process. Prior to ArvinMeritorís formation, Mr. Grace was Vice President of Engineering and Systems for Arvin Industries. He focused on product development and technology development for the corporation. In this latter role, he instituted programs for developing product-preceding technologies at various universities, institutes and partner companies.

Prior to joining Arvin Mr. Grace spent the majority of his career at Calspan Corportion (known originally as Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory), a research and development firm located in Buffalo, NY. Among his leadership roles, Mr. Grace was Department Head of Physical Sciences at Calspanís headquarters. This department was heavily involved in high Mach number aerodynamic testing and analysis, gas turbine research analysis and testing, rocket plume research and transportation research (vehicle dynamics, safety, crash testing, tire testing). Prior to his assignment in Physical Sciences Mr. Grace lead Calspanís Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance program for the US Air Force at Wright Patterson AFB.

Mr. Grace earned a B.S. and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, an M.S. in Applied Mathematics from Cornell University, and an MBA from the University of Dayton. He is presently a docent at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

Jon has worked in MIT's LFM and SDM programs for over 10 years. His current responsibilities include overseeing LFM/SDM operations and managing the programs' external partnerships with industry, alumni, and other universities.

Santosh is an enterprising business entrepreneur with over eight years of well rounded professional and educational experience in strategic business & supply chain management. His industry experience includes life science, retail, automotive and aerospace, with a proven record in delivering revenue growth, sustainable profits, and implementing strategy in a global arena. In addition to his MS in Management & Engineering from MIT SDM, he holds an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

He was elected member and former vice president of the Apache Software Foundation, where he is still an active contributor to numerous open-source projects including the world-leading Java server, Apache Tomcat.

Vineet Thuvara

As a senior manager at Microsoft Corporation, Vineet is leading the business and market strategy initiatives for the Core Windows Server Marketing Team, where he is applying systems thinking and life-cycle based approach to creating greater marketing and sales impact. His most recent accomplishment has been helping Windows Server Enterprise Edition reach $1 Billion (28% y/y growth) in annual revenue in 2008. Before Microsoft, Vineet was head of marketing communications and research for a US multinational in India for three years. Previously, he was founder and CEO of 5th Quadrant, a design company that he helped build into one of India's top ten industrial design firms in five years.

In addition to his SM in Engineering and Management from MIT SDM, Vineet holds a Masters degree in Industrial Design from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and a B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also received Advanced Technical Scholarships to work at Hitachi Design Center in Tokyo and an Eco-Design Training Scholarship at Delft University in the Netherlands.

He is also the co-author of "Life-Cycle Engineering Handbook for Indian industries."
