The MIT Master's Program in Engineering and Management
SDM Continues to Evolve
We have survived our first cohort start compressed from one month to two weeks. Now we can really call it 'Boot Camp'—we hosted a combined SDM/Certificate group of 106 new students in the final two weeks of August. All of the staff worked very hard, but embraced the new challenges enthusiastically.
Alumnae Leads the Charge
SDM '10 alum Rutu Manchiganti flew in from Germany to lead the Design Challenges (2) we put the new students through, with the blessing of her husband, SDM '09 Mario Montoya, now working for Siemens Corporate Research (thanks Mario!). Rutu managed a group of about ½ dozen current students to orchestrate an exhausting but fun 2 weeks of 18 hour days—she is a dynamo who kept us all sane (at least as sane as we ever were) and kept all the activities progressing smoothly—I owe her thanks that can never be repaid, and she is an example of a great alum contribution. DC1 comprised 16 teams, building 'standing' robots using Lego Mindstorm 3 kits. The final competition took most of Saturday at the end of the first week, and was attended by a number of family members and guests.
Next month, more about program changes (like the new logo?).Pat Hale
