SDM Program Associated Costs

Since the SDM program has a flexible design, with both on-campus and distance options, costs vary. Program-related costs can be broken down into three categories:

  • Costs associated with attending sessions on the MIT campus, including travel and meals
  • General housing costs (as needed)

In addition, each SDM student must have a laptop computer. The MIT campus is configured for wireless access. See MIT's hardware guidelines for more information on recommended configurations and MIT pricing (MIT certificate required to purchase).

On-Campus Sessions

Estimates are based on the on-campus time required for the 24-month program.

  • January session (one month). Best rates for hotels are approximately $99 per night but can go as high as $175-$200 or more. With food and transportation, budget $3,750–$6,000.
  • On-campus seminars (4-5 days each term). With hotel and food (but not round-trip travel costs) estimate approximately $1,000+ per term. For the five MIT domestic business trips this is about $5,000-6,000 total for distance students.

Housing: MIT has an excellent off-campus housing website.

Note: Estimates are provided for planning purposes only. With the exception of the MIT video bridge, MIT does not provide these services nor does it have control over any of these costs (housing, transportation). Costs can vary widely. In some cases, students may be able to negotiate prices that are lower than the estimates provided. MIT is continually seeking ways to lower program-related costs.
